About Laura Fergusson Trust
Community Rehabilitation Gym Programme
The Laura Fergusson Trust Tier One Community Rehabilitation Gym Programme is designed to improve access to specialist exercise and rehabilitation for physically disabled people living in the community.
Delivered in partnership with experienced rehabilitation providers across Auckland, the programme offers small-group, clinician-led exercise sessions in accessible environments. It supports people who have completed formal rehabilitation but continue to benefit from structured physical activity to maintain or improve their strength, mobility, independence and overall wellbeing.
The programme is focused on removing barriers to participation by providing specialist equipment, knowledgeable staff and environments that understand the unique needs of people with physical disabilities. Participants receive an initial assessment, individual goal setting and ongoing support throughout the programme, ensuring activities are tailored to their abilities and rehabilitation goals.
Tier One also provides an important pathway into lifelong rehabilitation and community participation. By increasing confidence, physical capacity and social connection, participants are better equipped to continue exercising independently and transition into mainstream or community-based opportunities where appropriate.
The programme is open to adults with a physical disability who meet the eligibility criteria and are seeking ongoing rehabilitation, improved function and greater participation in everyday life. Outcomes are measured through participant-reported wellbeing, functional progress and achievement of individual goals, helping ensure the programme delivers meaningful and lasting impact.
