In week two of the July School Holidays, Brickworks Drama is back to run five days of fun, friendly drama workshops! This July, we are crossing borders and oceans with Theatre Around the World, exploring the unique performance styles and storytelling traditions of France, West Africa, Aotearoa New Zealand, and beyond.
We're offering workshops for 6–15-year-olds (in age-appropriate groups). Our students gain confidence, enhancing their communication and teamwork skills through fun games and exercises taught by the experienced Brickworks drama tutors.
Get ready for fun and games with guest tutor, Julian Wilson, who’s here to teach us all about slapstick comedy! Drawing from Commedia Dell ‘Arte and the noisy batacchio (wooden clapper), there’ll be (fake!) comedy sketches full of drops, falls, and tumbles to keep us laughing all day!
Warm up those vocal cords! Today, we’re exploring acting through song with Stage Stars. We’ll learn to keep our characters alive while we hit those high notes. From ensemble harmonies to storytelling choreography, our students will learn a high-energy group number from a famous Broadway show. You don’t need to be the world’s greatest singer. Just bring your jazz hands and have some musical fun with us!
What happens when a librarian meets a robber, or a lion pops up in a meadow? Taking inspiration from the whimsical worlds of Margaret Mahy, we’ll be building our own weirdly wonderful characters. It’s a day for big imaginations, swaggering pirates, and magical adventures hailing from our own little corner of the world - Aotearoa New Zealand.
To be, or not to be... that is the question! (But today our answer is definitely "to be"...) We’re shrinking the Bard's biggest hits down to just 5 minutes each. From the Scottish play’s witches to Midsummer mischief, we’ll prove that Shakespeare is anything but boring!
Dramatic gasps, shocking revelations, and more cliffhangers than you can shake a script at! We’re diving into the high-stakes world of the Telenovela. We’ll film and edit our very own over-the-top drama scenes, complete with scheming villains and long-lost twins. Don't miss the big premiere!
