Football continues to grow and develop at Dio. Our teams cater to Junior (Years 9-10) and Senior (Open Grade – all players are eligible). Members of our 1st XI compete at the NZSS Champs during Winter Tournament Week at the end of August.

Uniform: Required - Other than the 1st XI who are loaned a playing uniform from the Sports Department, all teams play in PE tops and shorts, football boots, and navy socks puurchased from the school shop). Note - 1st XI players will need both a navy and red pair of socks. Training - Must wear PE gear to all trainings, seniors can wear house top and plain navy/black bottoms. Optional - WDSG Hoodie, WDSG Tracksuit (required if travelling), WDSG water bottle.

Match Day: 1st XI Friday evening (tbc), all other competitions are on Saturday morning between 8.30am and 1pm at various venues around the Waikato.

Important Dates:

Feb 18 and Feb 25 - 2.45-approx 5pm - Year 9-13 Football Trials on the school Field (players need to attend both trials EXCEPT Rowers who must only attend trials on the 18th of February). April 16-17 - Premier Team Camp (Premier Netball, 1st XI Football, 1st XI Hockey) April 25 - College Day tournament, St Peter's, Cambridge (1st XI only/1st XI Squad) - please be aware that this tournament may be apart of our 1st XI trial process May 8 - Sep 4 - Senior Premier comp (1st XI) May 9- Sep 12 - all other competitons May 11 - Auckland Dio Exchange - Auckland (1st XI and Junior A only) August 31-Sep 4 - NZSS Premier Tournament, Taupo (1st XI) Sep 19 - 5 Aside Tournament tbc - KO Cup Finals (where appplicale)

As part of the trial process, the Sports Department have introduced a non-refundable trial deposit of $50 for all sports teams that undergo trials resulting in team selection. This includes those that are trialing for our Junior and Senior Futsal teams and is a demonstration of your commitment to the season. This must be paid prior to trials commencing, similar to our 'No Pay/ No Play Policy'.

A trial deposit is being rolled out across the board within the Sports Department, as an initiative to ensure we are delivering consistency across all of our sports programs, and to ensure we are guaranteeing 100% commitment to our sports teams.

This deposit is included in overall seasons fees and will be deducted from fees post trials and team/s selection.

Coaching is a requirement for all officially named teams. The number of teams will be based on the availability of coaches. Groups without coaches will be considered 'friendship teams' and will need a manager which we will request after trials/selections.

Sports fees are due for payment priorto the season starting. WDSG now operates a 'No Pay / No Play' policy meaning your child will be removed from the team if payment is not made

Student Fair Play Code of Conduct:

Representing your school in any sports code is an honour and a responsibility. Good sport is about positive attitude. Play your part play fair.

To the best of my ability I will:

Play by the rules
Never argue with an official
Not use inappropriate or abusive language or gestures
Work hard to do my best at all times
Turn up to all practices and games
Be a good sport and accept success with dignity and be gracious in defeat
Remember to treat my coach, game officials, teammates and the opposition with courtesy and respect
Avoid putting people down or bullying them
Help others in my team when I can
Use all equipment and facilities responsibly

Parent/Caregiver Fair Play Code of Conduct:

As a parent/Caregiver, you can set the right tone and help make the game a success. We would appreciate if you would adhere to the following Fairplay expectations.

Encourage your daughter and her team mates, in their efforts in sport
Respect your daughters efforts the same regardless of whether she has won or lost
Never place undue pressure on your daughter to play or perform
Display self-control on the sideline treat the coach, game officials and opposition players with courtesy and respect
Make an effort to understand the rules of the game
Encourage your daughter to play within the rules of the game and by the principles of Fairplay.
Respect the coach and their decision. If you have an issue with coaching you need to discuss this with the Director of Sport. It is not appropriate to discuss the game, tactics or the amount of game time your daughter is receiving while the coach is trying to coach the team or have team talks.
Give the team and coach space at games. No parents should be in dugouts or team boxes during games.
Ensure your daughters attendance at school is above 90%
Ensure your daughter attends all compulsory school events
Ensure your daughter follows school policies and procedures

Player Code of Conduct

As a member of a Dio Sports Team, I agree to all of the conditions that are listed below and I understand that there may be consequences if I do not adhere to these conditions.

I will:

Bring my drink bottle to every practice and game
Attend every practice/game and team meeting unless otherwise discussed with the team Coach or Manager
Be on time for games/practices and team meetings
Support and encourage all team members
Be committed to the team for the duration of the season
Be respectful towards team members/team management/opposition teams and umpires/referees
Maintain suitable fitness levels
Wear appropriate footwear and school sports gear/uniform
Ensure to follow school policies and procedures
Play to win, but within the spirit and rules of the game
Represent Waikato Diocesan School appropriately
