Established in 2007 The Safe & Happy Club offers quality out of school care from Pekapekarau & Pirongia Primary Schools (and holiday care at TA Primary).

Breakfast is supplied for the children that attend before 8am. Please ensure your child is onsite before 8am if they require breakfast.

Afternoon tea is also supplied. If your child has special dietary requirements we ask that you supply this, we are happy to keep in in our fridge or pantry.

We offer free play indoor and outdoor activities which include crafts, sports, games and scooters along with toys like cars, truck dolls etc. You child also may do their homework in ASC, but this would usually be after 4.30 when it is a little quieter. We also use the school pool over the summer period.

We have a great team of staff, the majority have worked with us for a very long time and a few new to childcare, but all have a genuine love of children and caring for them in a safe and happy environment. We are MSD approved and have a robust policies and procedures which parents can look over at any time. Our staff are all police vetted and at a minimum management all have current first aid certificates.

Upon booking -

please ensure you tick the correct boxes around pick up times, eg if you select 4.30 and come at 4.35 the system automatically puts you into the next time bracket and switches your booking to the 'casual' rate.
ensure that you select recurring for those same days/times every week, and casual for days that are not every week.
make sure if you are selecting recurring, you use the date drop down to select the start and finish date.
all safety forms, permissions etc must be finalised before your child attends.
if you are using BSC - please note we are only onsite just before 7am if children are booked at 7am, ie if you are booked at 7.30 and come at 7.15, there may be no one onsite, if there are no 7am bookings.
if your child is in shared care and week about, you can book recurring days under the recurring section, once saved, flick over to the 'casual' section and remove the days your child is NOT with you and attending on your account. You can do this for the whole year.

Pirongia has 3 Teachers Only Days listed this year - 13 June, 15 Aug and 14 Nov which we have 'closed' for enrolment purposes, should these change, we will open a day up to reflect the change.

Important Information

If your child is not attending a booked session, please let us know before 7pm for the night prior for BSC and before 1pm for ASC. This will incur a 1 hour charge rather than a full session charge.

Recurring is the left tab and is the same days/time in the date range you select. If you need week about (ie shared care) you select recurring, then switch to the casual tab and remove the days you child does not need care.

Casual bookings are via the right tab. One offs, or adding/removing days up to the full year in advance. (within the notice period)

Upon registering my child for this programme, I understand that I agree to all the terms & conditions as below. I give permission for my child/children to participate in all activities as stated in the programme.Please note we operate before school and afterschool care along with holiday programmes. Please ensure you read the T&C thoroughly as they vary between programmes. I acknowledge that my child/children will receive reasonable care and attention for their health and safety while in attendance. While every care will be taken, The Safe & Happy Club directors, management and employees take no liability for any personal injury or damage to property howsoever occurring. I am also aware that any damage caused by the children listed above, is payable by myself. In event of an accident or illness, I authorise obtaining on my behalf medical assistance, if it is deemed necessary by staff and will meet any expenses incurred. (Emergency contacts to be contacted in case of emergency) We do not offer one on one care & all children that attend are expected to be using the toilet by themselves and not soiling themselves as we are unable to help with any toileting issues.

BSC/ASC- We operate from 7am-5.45pm, the fees are $1 per minute per child for any late pickups - after 5.45pm or early drop offs before our opening time. If you are over your booked time -eg booked to 4.00 and you come at 4.05 you will be billed in the next time bracket which is 4.30, please note the system will charge you at the casual rate

Pekapekarau Primary - I understand that if my child is being collected from another school, or bus stop & I do not let staff know that my child is away, before 2pm, I will be charge an additional $7. (this is due to staff sitting and waiting for children, when they could be headed to the next pick up point) . Cancellations & bookings- I understand that I am responsible for my booking - ie adding and removing days as needed. I understand that there is a 7-day notice period to cancel days, for BSC/ASC and minimum fees will apply for cancellations inside the 7-day notice period.(eg 1 hour per child, per session)We staff on number of children booked, so even if you child is sick or has an alternative form of care...There are strictly no refunds for days booked if your child does not attend.

Holiday Programme - hours are 7-5.45.Part days are 9-3 (we have staff just to cover 9-3) and pick up or drop offs outside these hours will be charged as a full day.Additional fees are $1 per minute per child for any late pickups - after 5.45pm or early drop offs before our opening time. Cancellations & bookings- I understand that I am responsible for my booking - ie adding and removing days as needed. I understand that there is a 14-day notice period to cancel days in the holiday programme, and full fees will apply for cancellations inside the 14-day notice period. We staff on number of children booked, so even if you child is sick or has an alternative form of care...There are strictly no refunds for days booked if your child does not attend.

I understand that if my child is attending the holiday programme we travel to trips by bus or van (as required) If via van it will have a current WOF, insurance & be driven by a fully licensed driver. Please ensure your child is onsite by the stated time, as we are unable to wait for children that are late. Booster seats are provided if required. The programme asks that I ensure children have morning tea, drink & lunch each day and a hat, drink and sunblock daily & a rashie or swimwear that covers the shoulders over the summer months. If your child is excluded due to bad behaviour, full fees minus 25% still apply. If your child is on an outing and needs to be collected due to bad behaviour, being sick or soiling, they MUST be collected asap. Any costs that are incurred by using a collection agency, including penalty interest and court costs, for unpaid fees, are payable by myself, the parent/guardian.

I understand that if I choose NOT to sign my child in or out, eg the child walks or bikes to us, or is dropped at the gate, the responsibility of care will transition to The Safe & Happy Club only once the child is signed into the programme and the responsibility of care will transition to myself as soon as my child leaves the school gates.

Complaints - If any parents or caregiver have a complaint about the programme, other children or staff please

in the first instance approach the manager who will attempt to rectify the situation
If you feel it has not been resolved, or if it is concerning the manager, contact Laille Martin
Any further complaints must be made in writing to Laille detailing the grievance & desired outcomes.
Where possible a mutual agreeable outcome will be sought.
Supervising staff will note & keep management informed of any verbal complaints received.

Our organisation is committed to keeping children healthy and safe. We may share information with appropriate agencies (such as health and education providers or other agencies involved with your childs life) if sharing that information will protect or improve the safety, health or well-being of a child. Our agency by law can always share information with Oranga Tamariki and the Police.
