Weekly day and time: Wednesdays, 7.30 - 9pm

Course length: 8 weeks
Cost: $150

Week 1: Introduction to Arabic: Learning the Arabic alphabet: pronunciation and writing, practice writing names and basic greetings.

Week 2: Basic Conversational Phrases: Common greetings and introductions. Simple role-plays for meeting new people.

Week 3: Numbers and Dates: Numbers 1-20. Days of the week and months of the year. Practicing dates and times in conversations.

Week 4: Cultural Immersion: Middle Eastern Cuisine: Introduction to food-related vocabulary. Simple phrases for ordering food.

• Collaborative event with a local Middle Eastern restaurant (optional).

Week 5: Shopping and Directions: Vocabulary for shopping, Simple dialogues. Role-play in a market setting.

Week 6: Family and Relationships: Vocabulary related to family members and relationships. Simple conversations about family life.

Week 7: Music and Songs: Learning simple Arabic songs. Pronunciation practice through music. Rhythmic and fun language learning.

Week 8: Hobbies and Interests: Vocabulary for common hobbies and activities. Practice talking about personal interests.

Tutor - Ahilla Fares

I am Ahilla Fares, born in Syria, and currently residing in New Zealand for nearly two years. Previously, I lived in Lebanon for over 11 years, where I had the privilege of teaching Arabic to foreigners. Being a native Arabic speaker, I am passionate about sharing my language and breaking down language barriers.

Teaching has been a rewarding experience, and I am eager to continue fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for Arabic among learners.

Terms & Conditions

FEES/PAYMENTS

You must enrol and pay for your class before it begins. (Tutors cannot accept enrolments or payments.)
Our class and activity fees include GST.
A 10% discount applies for senior citizens (65+) and people with a Community Services Card.
No discounts for casual attendance activities or annual membership fees.
Please note, if you choose to pay by credit card, a credit card transaction fee will be added to your total.
Material costs are not included, unless otherwise stated.
Children enrolled in classes and activities under the age of 16 years old must have a parent or guardian onsite.

CONFIRMATION

Many classes and activities require a minimum number of enrolments before they can proceed.

We will contact you to confirm your enrolment and any requirements 3-5 days prior to commencement.

TRANSFERS

A $10 fee is charged for each transfer between courses, before the course commences.

CREDITS

You will get a 100% credit on your account only if the class or activity is cancelled.
You will get a 50% credit on your account if you withdraw before the class starts.
You will not receive a credit if you withdraw after the class has started.

Credits are only carried forward for the next term.

CANCELLATIONS / DATE AND TIME CHANGES

Parnell Community Centre reserves the right to cancel any course at any time and to change any course dates and times.

DOGS/ANIMALS

As an Auckland Council community venue, no animals are permitted on site, other than guide dogs for the visually impaired, registered companion animals or official animals of the NZ Police.

COURSE EVALUATION

We welcome and value your feedback. Participants will be invited to complete a survey emailed at the end of the term.
