Discover the enchanting world of watercolour painting with Parnell Community Centre's art course, 'Korean Inspired Botanical Watercolour Painting' course!

Botanical Watercolour PaintingBotanical Watercolour PaintingDiscover the beauty and symbolism of Korean botanical art in this unique and exclusive four-week course inspired by Hwajodo (Flower and Bird) paintings.

Traditionally used as decorative screens, these artworks feature flowers, birds, and insects—each carrying symbolic meaning, such as prosperity, harmony, or fertility. In this course, you’ll draw on these rich cultural themes while creating your own expressive pieces using modern watercolour materials.

Rather than focusing on traditional techniques, this course emphasises subject matter, storytelling, and personal interpretation.

You will explore:

  • Korean botanical motifs and their symbolic meanings
  • Composition inspired by traditional Hwajodo artworks
  • Expressive painting using contemporary materials
  • Developing your own creative interpretation of cultural themes

Please note:
This course is recommended for those with some prior watercolour experience, or who have completed the Botanical Watercolour Painting course at beginning of term 3, but Beginners are welcome.  Participants are encouraged to bring printed reference images (flowers, birds, etc.), or complete some light preparation beforehand.

Participants should bring their own watercolour materials. The tutor will email suitable supplies on enrolment.

  • Start date: 27th August
  • Course length: 4 weeks (to combine with the botanical painting course, enrol on combo page for discount)
