Join award-winning artist Coral Noel Yang for Intuitive Abstract Painting with Mixed Media! In this immersive class, Coral guides you step-by-step through exploring acrylic, ink, and mixed media as you lean into intuition, develop your visual language, and create abstract paintings that truly express your voice.
You’ll learn to:

- Explore mixed media and expressive mark-making.
- Apply essential design principles that elevate any painting style.

Coral Noel Yang is a Taiwan-born, Auckland-based artist working in abstract and landscape painting with acrylic, oil, and mixed media. Inspired by Aotearoa’s landscapes, her Asian heritage, and global travels, she explores themes of wonder and connection through the beauty of the unpredictable fluid on raw canvas. Her exhibitions include Unfurling (2023), Tokimeku (2024), and Art in the Park (2024). A former Château d’Orquevaux Artist-in-Residence in France (2025), Coral enjoys sharing her love of painting and inspiring students to discover their own creative voices.
● Watercolour paper pad, A3, 300 GSM
● An assortment of brushes (large and small)
● A selection of acrylic or watercolour paints
● Watercolour pencils or soft pastels
● Acrylic ink or alcohol ink
● Water jar, palette, rag, and a hair dryer
Optional materials
(You don’t need to have all of these—choose what you have to explore a variety of ideas):
Mark-making tools:
Everyday items such as skewers, rollers, spatulas, old credit cards, toothbrushes, toilet
paper rolls, spray bottles, sponges, cotton swabs or balls, dry twigs, etc.
Texture and layering for collage:
Decorative tissue paper, kraft paper, corrugated paper, fabric scraps, lace, and ribbon.
