In this course, returning students can continue their journey, exploring possibilities of ‘kitchen table’ printing: printing that is possible in small spaces, without solvents, oil-based inks or a printing press, based on the tutor's water-based woodblock printing/ mokuhanga practice.
Enjoy new challenges and experience different print approaches and materials.
Please note that this course is only open for participants who have attended at least one of the beginner's Kitchen table printing classes.
- Weekly day and time: Tuesdays, 1.30pm - 3.30pm
- Start date: 21st July 2026
- Course length: 6 weeks
- Cost: $180 [All Materials can be provided for a fee of $35*. (payment directly to the tutor) for the following:
Use of tools (carving knives, printing baren, spray bottle for water), test printing and printing paper, a small wooden printing plate, watercolour, watercolour dishes, carbon paper, transparent paper, masking tape, non-slip mat, printing brushes, carrier brushes, water container.*If students bring their own carving tools and baren (returning students) but prefer to useconsumables provided by the tutor, a $20 fee per student/per term for consumables applies.]
Sybille Schlumbom is a full-time artist and experienced art tutor with a Master of Visual Arts (First Class Honours) from Auckland University of Technology and a background in painting and illustration from Bild Kunst Akademie Hamburg. Her postgraduate studies focused on printmaking, with particular expertise in Japanese woodblock printing (Mokuhanga), developed through residencies at the Mokuhanga Innovation Laboratory in Japan. As an immigrant artist, Sybille draws inspiration from the unfamiliar—new cultures, languages, and places—bringing this curiosity and cross-cultural sensitivity into her creative practice. With over 15 years’ experience teaching in galleries, museums, and community art spaces, she creates inclusive, hands-on learning environments that encourage experimentation and personal expression across a wide range of media. @sybille_schlumbom
