1 Day Cycle Trip + Overnight in the Den
This trip is intended primarily for students completing their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award and serves as the required practice expedition for the two-day Kaimai trip taking place at the end of the term 3 school holidays. However, all scouts and venturers are welcome to participate.
We will spend Friday night sleeping over in The Den before setting out on Saturday to complete a 44 km cycling circuit using Auckland's cycleway network. This trip provides an excellent opportunity to develop the skills, fitness, and confidence required for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh qualifying expedition.
You will need to bring:
• A fully functional bicycle with appropriately sized wheels (27-29 inch wheels).
• A well-fitting cycling helmet (sailing helmets are not suitable).
• Cycling gloves, either full-finger or fingerless.
• Sneakers and socks suitable for cycling (no Crocs).
• A high-visibility vest or bright-coloured top, if you have one.
• A day pack containing:
o Warm clothing
o A waterproof rain jacket
o Lunch
o A 1-litre drink bottle
• A personal first aid kit.
• A bicycle puncture repair kit (these can be purchased from The Warehouse at a modest cost).
• A camera.
• Lunch and snacks for the ride.
• Breakfast for Saturday morning.
• Everything required for an overnight stay at The Den, including:
o Stretcher or sleeping mat
o Sleeping bag
o Overnight clothing and toiletries
o Any other items needed for a comfortable night's sleep
