In conjunction with the Whau River Catchment Trust, New Lynn Sea Scouts will be helping to clean up the Whau River again on Saturday23 May. As well as being a great community service, and a chance to preserve and improve one of our boating haunts; and it's fun to get everyone out along the river – it’s not really a chore…. 

 

Due to the success of the event over many years, it is now getting harder to find rubbish in the waterway hence the Whau River Catchment Trust is modifying the day to include more celebration activities.

 

This event is for the entire Group - Keas, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and families and it would be great to see as many people along as possible.

 

You can either get out on a boat to pull rubbish from the river or amble along the river banks, or join in the various activities – so ideal for the whole family. See the attached Flyer.

 

Please RSVP by Wednesday 30 May so we know in advance how many boats we need to prepare.

 

Please wear clothes (and footwear) suitable for boating and/or walking on the river bank; so assume wet and muddy! Bring some gloves if you have them.

 

NB: When Andrew was a Scout with the Group the River was not somewhere you would swim in. Now after many years of river clean ups by us and the community this is a place we enjoy many boating and swimming activities... lets keep up the good work.
