Our Bombay programme is Nature's Den's newest home and a beautiful outdoor space designed for adventure, exploration and hands-on learning. Located on a stunning lifestyle block in Bombay, this special site has a similar feel to our much-loved Brookby programme, with plenty of space for tamariki to explore, create and connect with nature.
The diverse environment includes:
* A stunning, wide, crystal-clear freshwater stream for exploration, discovery and adventure.
* Space for children to establish, grow and care for their own vegetable garden.
* A small shed for carpentry, building projects and creative making.
* A separate indoor building providing shelter on wet days, space for quieter activities, and somewhere to enjoy a warm drink when needed.
* Plenty of natural space for free play, exploration and child-led adventures.
The freshwater stream is one of the most exciting features of this programme. It's the kind of place children naturally gravitate towards — climbing over rocks, building dams, searching for freshwater creatures, splashing, exploring and creating their own adventures.
Each day at Bombay is a blend of child-led learning and structured activities, ensuring children have the freedom to follow their interests while also developing new skills, confidence and a deeper connection with the natural world.
Activities may include:
* Stream exploration and freshwater discovery.
* Building dams, bridges and other creations using natural materials.
* Whittling, carving, carpentry and woodworking.
* Cooking kai (food) on the campfire.
* Growing and caring for a vegetable garden.
* Shelter building and construction projects.
* Foraging and plant identification.
* Nature crafts, creative making and loose-parts play.
* Exploring the surrounding environment through games, challenges and child-led adventures.
Like our Brookby programme, Bombay follows the Tuakana-Teina learning model, where older children mentor and support younger children. We believe children of different ages have so much to learn from one another, helping to create a strong sense of community, leadership and shared responsibility.
To ensure a high-quality and personalised experience, we take a maximum of just 18 tamariki and maintain our smallest educator ratio of 1 educator to every 6 children.
This programme is suitable for children aged 4–12 years.
