Blake Haerenga brings together MERC's experience in marine education and recreation with overnight adventurous journeys. Join us on one of our trips with your mates for an unforgettable experience, you will gain confidence in your skills around the whenua and moana while exploring, learning, and connecting with our te taiao (environment).
Building on the Blake Haerenga - This trip will push participants to plan, prepare, and achieve a 4-day,3-night overnight journey in Long Bay and Mahurangi Harbour. Along the way, we will focus on perfecting navigational and paddling skills as well as exploring the differences in marine environments between Long Bay Marine Reserve and the waters around Mahurangi and Wenderholm Regional Parks. Some learnings may include identifying marine life and coastal birds, talking about oyster aquaculture, as well as identifying different coastal habitats, and our impacts on these taiao (environments).
This trip is open to the public, but can be leveraged as an opportunity to complete your Bronze and Silver Qualifying Journeys through the Duke of Edinburgh International Award. If this interests you, get in touch with us for more information. Contact: darren@merc.org.nz
