The class develops instrument playing skills, anchoring the learning in the body and in singing first.
Ensemble, or group playing, develops listening and social skills as well as musicality, as children learn to play in time with each other.
Physical coordination across the body's three midlines is developed which supports brain efficiency.
Notation includes pictorial and conventional styles, made understandable through experiencing the music first through the body and voice.
Children play xylophones, large wooden marimbas and various percussion instruments as well as adding:
- Keyboard in term 2,
- Ukulele in term 3.
- Recorder in term 4.
Social skills and creativity are fostered as children work with their own ideas and those of others.
