How Does Go Little Footballers Support School Readiness and Key Stage 1 Preparation
At Go Little Footballers, our sessions are specifically designed to support school readiness, EYFS development, and a smooth transition into Key Stage 1 (KS1) all through fun, engaging and structured football-based activities.
We combine physical development, cognitive learning and social skills in every session, helping children aged 2–4 build confidence in their bodies and minds before starting primary school.
Physical Development is one of the prime areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Our football sessions actively develop the fundamental movement skills children need before entering Key Stage 1.
Each class includes activities that improve:
- Running and stopping safely
- Changing direction and speed
- Balancing and coordination
- Throwing and catching
- Kicking and striking
- Spatial awareness
These are core skills referenced within the National Curriculum for Physical Education and form the foundation for future PE lessons in primary school.
By practising these skills in a structured, supportive environment, children develop control, coordination and body confidence — essential for classroom participation and playground play.
Developing Cognitive Skills Through Football
Our sessions are carefully structured to support early cognitive development. Children are encouraged to:
- Listen carefully and follow instructions
- Understand rules and routines
- Make decisions independently
- Solve simple problems
- Improve concentration and focus
- Develop memory and recall
These skills are vital for Key Stage 1 learning, where children are expected to follow teacher instructions, engage in group activities and develop independence.
Through football-based games and challenges, children learn to think, react and adapt, building the mental readiness needed for school.
Building Social Skills and Emotional Confidence
School readiness is not just about academic skills, confidence and social development are equally important.
At Go Little Footballers, children learn to:
- Take turns and share equipment
- Work cooperatively in small groups
- Communicate with peers and adults
- Manage winning and losing positively
- Build resilience and self-belief
Our pressure-free environment encourages children to try new skills without fear of failure. This builds emotional resilience and helps children feel confident when starting primary school.
Preparing Children for Key Stage 1 Through Play
Research consistently shows that children learn best through active play. Our sessions blend structured learning outcomes with fun, high-energy activities to keep children engaged.
By combining:
- Physical movement
- Cognitive challenges
- Social interaction
- Positive coaching
Go Little Footballers provides a well-rounded programme that supports school readiness, KS1 preparation, and early childhood development.
