The programme aims to provide a free play environment, offering tamariki aged 5 to 13 years the opportunity to follow their own interests in an amazing natural environment.
Our valued staff understand the benefits of free play and have the ability to support and extend children’s play.
Some of the possible activities available during our programme include:
- Exploring the bush, the reserve and its inhabitants
- Climbing trees
- Hut building
- Arts and crafts, working with natural materials, weaving, junk construction etc
- Rope play, making swings, zip line and spider webs
- Storytelling and drama, reading books
- Messy play, mud play, paint, gloop and slime
- Starting a campfire and roasting marshmallows or campfire cooking
- Working with real tools, wood working
Please note that there are no set daily activities, tamariki a free to choose to play how they wish with the resources and equipment available. If this is your child's first programme it's reassuring for them to attend with a sibling or friend.
Our programmes are intentionally built around managed risk. Activities such as climbing, tool use, and fire help tamariki develop confidence, resilience, responsibility, and risk awareness.
While we provide active supervision and clear safety boundaries, outdoor play carries inherent risk, and minor injuries such as scratches, bruises, cuts, and bumps are a normal part of active outdoor exploration.
Some of the amazing feedback we have had:
"....we thought the holiday programme was fantastic. My 3 girls had the best time and it was really neat to see them come home each night dirty and happy!!!"
"She loved it so much! She enjoyed how the coordinators created things. She told me that they taught her “anything is possible” after seeing the creations and ideas like making swings and zip lines and bubble blower etc. She came home so inspired!"
"My children absolutely loved it. They loved toasting marshmallows, going in the steam, the waterside, making bow and arrows. All of it!"
