Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a chronic eye condition that cannot be cured, but early detection and prevention can help slow its progression. As we age, the risk of retinal and macular disease increases significantly. In fact, approximately 1 in 7 people over the age of 50 is at risk of developing AMD.
Symptoms such as blurred or distorted vision can greatly affect daily life. Beyond impacting eyesight, vision loss can increase the risk of falls, reduce independence, contribute to social isolation, and even lead to depression. In severe cases, AMD may result in permanent blindness.
