Run by Arts a Go Go! Performing Arts School and Danzworx Upper Hutt
Welcome to Arts a Go Go! We are now taking enrolments for Term 1, 2027. Please read below about our Wednesday drama classes.
Students will have fun and exciting learning opportunities in such areas as physical theatre, script-work, story-telling, role-playing, mime and improvisation. Drama techniques are explored including voice projection, trust, team-work, listening and characterisation, while at the same time students build up a knowledge of acting and theatrical terms. The class helps children develop confidence, friendships and a willingness to take risks. Lifetime lessons will be learned that will help them in both classroom and social situations. Our classes help students experience joy and we often hear they are the highlight of a student's week. Arts a Go Go! stages highly regarded theatre plays/shows in November each year and details come out about this in June. Rehearsals begin for this in Term 3.
Rachel Main - Director Arts a Go Go
Rachel is a registered teacher and was a school teacher and performer before starting Arts a Go Go! in 2008. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree and Diploma of Teaching, plus a Certificate in Education Leadership. Rachel also has an advanced diploma in modern dance, Level 1 and 2 Estill Voice Training, and is a member of the NZ Association of Singing Teachers and Musical Theatre NZ. Rachel has been very involved in theatre over the years and has performed on stage in a number of roles. She trained in drama teaching in Auckland as part of her teacher training and was Teacher in Charge of the Arts at an intermediate school before having her family. She has written and directed drama, singing and dance performances for children for almost 30 years. As a performer, she has been part of a professional singing, dancing, storytelling entertainment group for young children. In 2013, Rachel was selected as one of four finalists in the "Leadership Category" of the "Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Awards". Criteria included: outstanding leadership, building and leading teams and being passionate about her role and the people she works with.
Wednesday drama students are divided into four groups and your child's time will be confirmed depending on enrolments. Students are placed in the class that best fits them as individuals, factoring in age, friendships and class numbers. Content changes to match the class and students do not progress to later times, like being put up a level. (With the exception of advanced drama, which is by invitation only for some senior students.) We have outstanding drama students in each class, regardless of time.
3.30 - 4.30pm approx age 7-10
4.45 -5.45pm approx age 11-12
6.00-7.00pm Senior approx age 13+
7.10 -8.40pm Advanced Drama (by invitation)
Parents and caregivers are welcome at Arts a Go Go! and there is room to wait should they wish to, however, for all classes other than those for pre-schoolers and 5 year olds, beyond the first day of term, parents and siblings are not to stay in the room where instruction is taking place. This is to avoid affecting the concentration of students and teaching staff and affecting the children's confidence by people watching them as they create, learn and experiment. On the second to last week of terms 1 and 2, there will be parent viewing day, where parents and family have the opportunity to observe the classes in action and see the progress their children have made. This does not apply in terms 3 and 4 when we are show focused.
At the completion of each term, students will be presented with an Arts a Go Go! participation certificate in recognition of attendance, attitude and commitment plus medals, plaques and trophies as they progress, for example, a bronze Arts a Go Go! medal after 1 year, a silver medal after 2 years, a gold medal after 3 years, bronze plaque after 4 years and more.
Your child is welcome to try the first class before committing for the term. Please still enrol so that a space is held and proceed to "checkout" to enter details. (Immediate payment is not required and an invoice with the due date and bank account is automatically emailed.)
Term fees are generally due by the third week of term. An invoice is automatically generated and emailed to you on enrolment. We do not currently accept credit card payments through Enrolmy. On the invoice is the bank account number for internet banking. Please reference with your child's name and the term you are paying for. The total fee displayed includes GST.
